Nursery Nurse

Main Responsibilities

· To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Setting.

· To work as a keyperson to a small group of EYFS children and plan for their individual requirements as well as meet their care needs, with special regards to those under 2 years.

· To give support to other personnel within the Setting and to liaise with the Manager to ensure the wellbeing of all staff is maintained.

· To take or collect children from school if required following strict procedures.

· To ensure the safety and wellbeing of children within allocated room.

· To implement the daily routine in the allocated room.

Main Duties

· To be aware of the high profile of the Nursery and to uphold its standards at all times including all aspects of the Code of Conduct.

· Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the Setting is fulfilled.

· Reporting any concerns and liaising fully with senior staff as necessary.

· Support all staff and engage in a good staff team. Acting as buddy to another Keyperson where required and using own initiative to support all keypersons.

· Ensure the safeguarding policy is understood and adhered to at all time including the collection of children from the setting.

· To contribute to a program of activities suitable to the age range of children within an agreed area, in conjunction with other staff.

· To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.

· Preparation and completion of activities to suit the children’s stages of development including tidying up.

· Keep an accurate Learning Journey on all key children using both manual and technological records.

· To complete a wide range of observations and assessments to produce an accurate and concise report that is well written. Focusing on the 3 prime areas for the under 3’s and all 7 areas of learning for the over 3’s in line with EYFS requirements.

· To ensure that 2-year progress check reports are written and discussed with parents, ensuring that copies are passed to the Children Centre if extra support can be offered.

· To undertake scheduled training as directed by the Manager and to keep abreast of developments within the Early Years profession through their own research.

· Liaise with, and support parents and other family members via home link book or face to face meetings.

· Liaise with a second provider via link book to ensure continuity of care and learning.

· Liaise with and meet with the Local Authority / other professionals as required within your role.

· Respect the confidentiality of all families who attend the setting, and the right of all staff to have their personal information kept confidential.

· To attend out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings

· To be flexible within working practices of Setting. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleaning of equipment & rooms, etc.

· Recording of accidents in line with policy and applying first aid where qualified.

· Look upon the Setting as a "whole", where help can be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children.

· To ensure mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing and safe for all children whilst they are eating.

· Cleaning and changing of children as required.

· To be alert to and support children who are taken ill at the Setting until parents are contacted and they are collected.

At East Thurrock Kids Club, we believe that to ensure the highest quality of care and education to all our families, training for staff members has to be of high importance. All staff are Paediatric First Aid trained, and have to attend in house training on a regular basis in subjects such as Safeguarding, Health and Hygiene, Fire safety, Inclusion and the EYFS. All staff have regular performance reviews, where training is discussed as part of their professional development programme.

All staff hold a current DBS certificate and new members of staff complete an induction period. We will regularly have students attend the setting to develop the practical skills inline with they training programme. Local schools and colleges place students with us. Students are supervised by a senior member of staff.
